20080217 Ben Musser of Benyaro, Metro Coffee House, Savannah GA : On my first visit to lovely Savannah, Georgia, I found in the February 17, 2008 music listing of Connect Savannah an intriguing description of a group performing at Savannah's Metro Coffee House. The listing described "Benyaro. Up-and-coming Brooklyn-based acoustic folk/rock/Americana act featuring a real-life brother and sister that's drawing comparisons to - get this - Three Dog Night and Poco, as well as CSN&Y (mainly due to their heavenly vocal harmonies and laid-back country-into-rock arrangements). They call it 'salt country,' but anyway you cut it, this is agrarian soul music." I offered to take some shots and low-resolution video clips when I met the kind lead, Ben Musser, who played solo. I didn't hear Poco or the other groups in him, but nevertheless enjoyed the music. Ben is quite talented - he sings, plays guitar, and with one and sometimes both legs, plays percussion - all at the same time! Visit Benyaro on their MySpace page. 20070301 Toubab Krewe : My wife and I saw Toubab Krewe on March 17, 2006 in Raleigh, NC. We liked them so much that we purchased their debut CD. Tonight, after a several-month visit to West Africa, they kicked off their new U.S. tour at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, NC, and I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the show. These pictures are not edited - but feel free to contact me if you see an image that you like that I can crop, lighten, remove red eye, etc. I also have included a number of short video clips. 20070112 Dave Kain Group (jazz quartet), Speakeasy, Winston-Salem, NC : We were in downtown Winston-Salem, NC on Friday January 12, 2007, and found a good jazz club, Speakeasy Jazz. We enjoyed seeing the Dave Kain Group (check out their MySpace page), a jazz quartet from New York City and upstate New York. In addition to the pictures and video, I have a few digital audio files (.wav format) that I can email to anybody who is interested.

20060924 Carrboro Music Festival : I attended the ninth annual Carrboro Music Festival on Sunday, September 24, 2006. Twenty-one sites, both indoor and outdoor, hosted one hundred fifty (!) performing ensembles. The whole event, sponsored by the Town of Carrboro, NC and others, is free and it seems that music is playing everywhere in the downtown area during the festival! I attended this last year as well. Though the event lasted from 1p-midnight, I only was there from about 5:30-10:30p. For the few bands that I was fortunate enough to see, I captured a few images and low-resolution video that I'm happy to share here.
