Camera - My Original 35mm, Minolta Hi-Matic 7 : My Dad got my photography passion and then profession off to a start early on by giving me this, for its time, rather advanced Minolta Hi-Matic 7 rangefinder camera, one of the first to offer automatic, semi-automatic (aperture- and shutter- priority), and manual shooting modes. He picked the camera up but didn't maintain an interest in photography.

2007 Wildlife in North Carolina photo competition submissions : I submitted these pictures for this year's competition the day before they were due, Friday, September 14th. I had great luck in the first year of the competition, 2005, winning second prize out of 544 pictures that were entered in the landscape category, but in 2006 I didn't win anything. You can see the images that I entered in 2006; I've re-entered some of them this year. I really like the pictures below of pelicans, as well as two winter trees and newborn cardinals; perhaps the pelicans have some chance of winning? (You can see my entire gallery of pelicans.)

2006 Wildlife in North Carolina photo competition submissions : In September 2006, I entered these 14 images into the 2006 Wildlife in North Carolina photo competition. There were eight categories for adults (and two for those 17 and younger); one can enter up to 3 pictures in each category. Pictures need to be taken anywhere in the State of North Carolina in the past five years (September 15, 2001-2006). I entered 2 images in Reptiles and Amphibians, 3 in Invertebrates, 3 in Peaks, Valleys and Plains (landscapes), 2 in Wild Plants, 1 in Outdoor Recreation, 3 in Animal Behavior, and none in Birds or Mammals. Last year, I entered this annual competition for the first time and was delighted to win second prize (out of 544 entries) in the Peaks, Valleys, and Plains category (you can see all of the 2005 winners) - and I had only entered a total of 3 pictures! This year I am not so hopeful; I think that each of these images has some merit, but with the possible exception of just a few, I don't think any is likely to win. But there is no entry fee to try!
