Sisters' Garden - Chapel Hill, NC
Barbara Stiles and Bernice Wade are well known and loved. They happily exhibit their The Garden is Open sign at their charming home in the historic Gimghoul neighborhood of Chapel Hill, NC - and have done so for decades, even now that they're ninety+ years young. Folks come by the busload to enjoy their spectacular spring garden, particularly in April once the dogwoods have started to bloom, and to meet the energetic twins. A children's book has been written about their garden and they have been on television, radio, and many periodicals.
I have a special connection with them as Barbara is my cousin's Godmother. You can read more about them in many sources, such as April 6, 2007, and November 23, 2005 newspaper articles. Nephew Tom has started in spring 2007 the website The Garden is Open. I brought some students to the garden in early April 2008 - their gallery of images can also be seen.
Note: pictures are sorted into four categories: (A) signs and the twins, (B) house, (C) garden, and (D) closeups. Within those categories, images are sorted by month and day. Favorite shots appear at the beginning.
