20060924 Carrboro Music Festival
I attended the ninth annual Carrboro Music Festival on Sunday, September 24, 2006. Twenty-one sites, both indoor and outdoor, hosted one hundred fifty (!) performing ensembles. The whole event, sponsored by the Town of Carrboro, NC and others, is free and it seems that music is playing everywhere in the downtown area during the festival! I attended this last year as well. Though the event lasted from 1p-midnight, I only was there from about 5:30-10:30p.
For the few bands that I was fortunate enough to see, I captured a few images and low-resolution video that I'm happy to share here. I also have some .wav audio file snippets that I would be glad to email to anybody upon request.

Our very entertaining evening ended with yet another great performance, this time by Onomata. A tight group with interesting flourishes particularly on the keyboard and occasionally saxophone, the group was started in 1999. Their website seems to summarize nicely their style in stating that the group "is a pulse-based multi-idiomatic improvsational quintet who create odd structures and textures from instant ideas". They're another group that I would love to see again!
